About Bronwen

At age 26, following the birth of her fifth child, wife of Roger Best, principal viola with the Northern Sinfonia Orchestra, she took up the double bass. She had played the cello from the age of 14 and studied that instrument at the Royal Manchester College of Music, qualifying at the age of 19.

Repertoires

At the start of my efforts to become a bass soloist, I figured that most of the original works for solo bass were by composers no one had ever heard of… Dragonetti anyone?…Bottesini…Koussevitzky?

Blog with Bronwen

To someone of my generation, the word ‘Blog’, on its own, means nothing very much, but we all know what it signifies. I prefer to describe what follows as ‘Musings and Memories of a Mostly Musical Magpie Mind’……

Media & Gallery

Here you will find an array of visuals and audios covering some of my time as a double bass soloist…..musical saw as well.
